Cheryl Curry is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been an educator for 29 years at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She has taught Adult English as a Second Language as well as career exploration at Northern Illinois University. She holds a Master’s Degree in School Counseling and a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education from Northern Illinois University, as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Aurora University. Cheryl’s background in education gives her unique perspective and insight into the successful partnership parents and children can have with their school. She assists further by using her knowledge of educational systems to bridge the gap between clients and schools.
Cheryl has an extensive background in Social Emotional Learning skills and working with adolescents and older children with anxiety management. Cheryl’s counseling experience encompasses Kindergarten through young adults, and she has facilitated workshops for parents and educators on such topics as bully prevention, coping with anxiety, college and career readiness, and understanding learning styles.
Cheryl’s approach is to build an easy and supportive relationship with her clients, and then focusing on building their self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship and decision-making skills. Her relaxed and friendly nature and ability to make her clients feel at ease is an asset when it comes to building trust and empowering her family members. Cheryl believes that parents are an essential part of the growth process, and welcomes them as partners in the solution-focused journey.
