Megan McKenna

Megan McKenna is a pediatric speech-language pathologist and certified autism specialist. Megan graduated with her B.S. in Speech and Hearing Science and clinical M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She comes to Plum Tree with over a decade of experience supporting children with communication needs across a variety of settings – homes, schools, private clinics, hospital-based outpatient clinics, and university clinics – in addition to administrative and clinical education roles. She is passionate about providing neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed care that honors each child’s individual strengths and differences and focuses on creating a meaningful connection in the therapeutic space.

Megan has engaged in a range of continuing education opportunities to support young children (and their families) with communication differences and disabilities with a specific focus on autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Megan is trained in the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) and has dedicated much of her career to discovering ways to apply a communication-focused lens to the medical diagnostic process to provide ASD diagnoses that are thorough and reflective of the whole child/person.

Megan is a certified Hanen Centre provider (More Than Words, TalkAbility), credentialed to provide early intervention (EI) services in Illinois, and holds a professional educator license to provide speech-language services in Illinois public schools. Megan believes in child-led and play-based/interest-focused speech-language intervention that engages children and leads to meaningful, functional progress.

Megan lives in the Fox Valley area with her husband, daughter, and two rescue dogs. She enjoys exploring and relaxing with her family, reading, houseplant care, and yoga.
