Shelby Woods

Shelby is a Licensed Professional Counselor is currently in the process of becoming a Doctor of Clinical Psychology with specialization in forensic and neuropsychology. Shelby received her Masters of Arts in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She received her Bachelors of Arts from Butler University in Psychology and Criminology while also minoring in Spanish.

Shelby has experience in working with interpersonal violence and sexual assault victims in case management, residential, individual and group therapy settings. Shelby developed a comprehensive understanding of interpersonal violence and its effects on adults and children through 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training. Additionally, Shelby holds the capacity to assist clients through crisis situations to further ensure the safety and security of all individuals involved, while developing trusting relationships through rapport building and empathy.

Shelby holds experience in working with eating and mood disorders in residential settings, while integrating approaches and supporting individuals through their recovery journey. Furthermore, Shelby holds experience in working with underserved youth in academic settings. Here Shelby facilitated an inclusive learning environment to ensure participation and understanding of material, while developing healthy and supportive relationships with students to ensure their mental health and well-being.

Additionally Shelby has worked with adolescent youth taken into police custody as the result of being locked out or running away from home. As a result, Shelby understands the importance of helping children reconnect with parents, and works to support youth in crisis by advocating and providing a safe environment for the child to be respected and heard.

Shelby’s expertise includes working with adolescents ages ten and older, while holding special interests in the treatment of trauma, eating disorders, mood disorders, behavioral issues, anxiety and depression. Shelby utilizes a psychodynamic approach to determine the unique and exact needs of each individual she works with. Shelby further promotes positive and productive therapeutic relationships to work as a catalyst for individuals to better understand and interact with themselves, others, and the world around them.

Shelby holds a profound passion for working in the mental health field, while bringing compassion, empathy and support to each individual she encounters. Moreover, Shelby works to gain a deeper understanding of how an individual’s distinct experiences have shaped or impacted their identity, ultimately allowing her to determine how this will influence the dynamic of the relationship she develops with each of her clients.

In her free time, Shelby enjoys volunteering as a foster parent for a local animal rescue and adoption agency. Additionally, Shelby loves spending time outside with her two dogs, finding new restaurants in the area to try, traveling, and attending concerts performed by her favorite music artists.
