Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy

Veronica Hiltscher, LCSW, is a neurodivergent-affirming therapist who has many years of experience working with children and their families. She provides an accepting and supportive environment where children can feel comfortable being themselves. Her approach recognizes each child’s individual strengths, communication style, sensory needs, and unique way of experiencing the world.

Veronica works with children with autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation challenges, and behavioral concerns. Rather than focusing on changing neurodivergent traits, she helps children better understand themselves, develop practical coping strategies, and build skills that support their everyday lives.

In addition, Veronica partners with parents and caregivers to help them better understand their child’s needs. She provides practical strategies families can use to support emotional regulation, communication, and positive relationships at home and in the community.

Education and Professional Experience

Veronica earned her degree from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois Chicago. She also holds an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) and has experience working as a school social worker. As a result, she understands the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral challenges children may experience at school.

Veronica earned her Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential in 2004. Her extensive clinical and school-based experience allows her to consider the whole child when developing an individualized approach to therapy.

Creative and Child-Centered Therapy

Veronica understands that children do not always communicate their thoughts and feelings through conversation alone. Therefore, she incorporates music, theater, art, and play into therapy when appropriate. These creative approaches allow children to participate and express themselves in ways that feel comfortable and natural.

She also incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and play therapy into her sessions. Veronica adapts these approaches to each child’s developmental level, strengths, and individual needs.

Through therapy, Veronica helps children build emotional awareness, strengthen coping and regulation skills, improve communication, and develop greater confidence. Above all, she strives to provide a space where children feel heard, understood, respected, and valued for who they are.
